Each search engine publishes Webmaster Guidelines indicating their recommendations for indexing. Web sites that do not comply with the guidelines risk being penalized in positioning or with complete removal from the database. Yahoo! Search Content Quality Guidelines specifies do’s and don’ts for inclusion in the Yahoo! index. It also provides tips on how to improve your rankings.
Google Webmaster Guidelines provide direction for web site design and content, as well as technical and quality criteria. It warns that sites that do not meet their quality guidelines may be blocked from the index.
